Escapees Rally in Grayland, Washington

For the next four days, we joined our Escapees Evergreen Chapter 5 rally in Grayland, a mere 75 miles north of Long Beach. It was a timely and convenient next stop along the coast.

Except for a short section inland through the Wilapa National Wildlife Refuge, coastal route 101 hugs the coastline and is scenic.

The tide was out, and the mud flats of Wilapa Bay were quite expansive.

When you see logging trucks, you know you are in logging territory with forests a-plenty. We passed a saw mill with neatly stacked logs and planks.

The trip went smoothly until we passed Raymond and turned off on route 105 towards Cape Shoalwater.

They were busy resurfacing the road and first we had a long wait for the the opposite traffic to drive through before the lead car escorted us next. I didn't like the fresh, loose tar being kicked up by the tires. We "crunched" along for several miles when the first passing car threw a rock which hit the windshield and we now have our first crack on the driver's side.
Grrrr!

Not much beyond that, we arrived at Kennana RV Park where we checked in and set up. Most of the group was already there.

We went off with our friends the Leggs to the beach. The dogs enjoyed scurrying about on the sand and in the water.

From the beach we joined the rest of the rally group at the Cranberry Winery restaurant for dinner.

The Escapees' mantra is friendship and fun.
For the next 3 days, we definitely experienced both. In addition, we ate sumptuously. There were fresh breakfast donuts and fruit, followed by snacks at happy hour, and then dinner. We do not go hungry at rallies!

One morning, we gals had fun completing a craft.
Most ladies covered a wire hangar, but I chose something more useful for us: a bug scrubby. It's created with strips of netting and a crochet hook and took no time at all. Michael has since used it on the windshield and front end of the Alpine and likes it.

We had our Chapter meeting the final day after breakfast. I like this group's meetings - short, sweet, and to the point, covering all that needs to be addressed in 34 minutes so we could get back to enjoying the rest of the day.

This group loves playing games. After dinner, cards and Mexican Train are popular for those not too tired. During the day, there were Ladder Golf tournaments, horseshoes, and on the final day there was "baseball." The guys played the gals and won. Again

Our final evening we played several rounds of card bingo. I won one game! The stakes were high.... each game was a nickel!

This saying was on the wall of the clubhouse where we met for meals and games. I liked what it says:

We had a good time, caught up with friends we knew but had not seen in months, and got to know several new folks. The four days passed in a flash and by Friday morning everyone was rolling out.
We left too and continued on to our next stop along the coast, only another 50 miles north, to Ocean Shores.
