Next destination: Lake Havasu City rodeo grounds

I definitely want to return to River Island State Park... it's a real gem, an oasis in the desert. Without a sewer hookup, it's semi-dry-camping and perfectly do-able with the park's electric and water hookups. Lack of easy access to WiFi, as we discovered, is not a tragedy after all. We found that our AT&T phone, which has a bad reputation in most areas, actually worked! So at least we had some means of communication, mostly a factor for us to be able to keep in touch with aging parents.

I set up the sewing machine while we stayed here to work on bottom seat covers for the driver and passenger seats. It was easier for me to sew in the coach to make adjustments and fit the covers. Hopefully they will protect and preserve the seats a little longer. 

My other project on this trip is to create padded containers for our dishes. Using felt and a thin layer of foam rubber, the containers prevent the dishes from sliding about and also reduce the rattling as we bounce down the road. So far so good, one drawer done and two more to go.

Around noon, we set off for Lake Havasu City, the venue for the SoCal Winter Blast Rally.
The drive was short, just 30 miles further north on route 95, the landscape now a familiar desert terrain.

The rodeo grounds are at the south end of town, part of SARA (Special Activities Recreation Area) Park on BLM land. We were escorted to our assigned spot in the Alpine section and got set up. Although the rally officially begins on Thursday, a few other eager Alpines arrived early too. Twenty five coaches are on the roster this year. I look forward to meeting up with previous Alpine friends and getting to know new ones who will be attending this rally.
